Jean Loreen Ulamealani Cruz, 70, of Henderson, Nev., died Jan. 23 at home. Born in Hilo, she was a retired secretary for the University of Hawaii School of Pharmacy. Services at a later date. Survived by daughters, Stephanie (Bruce) Tyrin of Phoenix and Sarah Cruz of Henderson; brothers, Charles Dahlberg of West Simsbury, Conn., and Jim Dahlberg of Thailand; three grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Josephine Kuulei Naungayan, 87, of Kapaau died Jan. 18 at home. Born in Kohala, she was a retired nursery worker for a foliage and plant nursery and member of Hawi Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Memorial Mass and urn burial at a later date. Survived by children, Patrick (Rachel) Black Santiago of Kailua-Kona, Paul Santiago of Las Vegas, Priscilla (Douglas) Atkins, Peter (Eva) Naungayan and Patti (Timothy) Stivers of Kohala, Pauline Naungayan of Honokaa; brother, Louis (Phyllis) Malasig of Las Vegas; sister, Priscilla (Alan) Kaaekuahiwi of Waimea; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. Leonardo “Smiley” Galima Ragpala, 76, of Honokaa died Jan. 21 at home. Born in Bacnotan, La Union, Philippines, he was a retired sugar cane field instrumentalist for the former Hamakua Sugar Plantation Co. and member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Visitation 9-10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Memorial Mass at 10 a.m. Face masks and social distancing required. Survived by daughters, Marita Ragpala and Leenelle (Uelese) Pola of Honokaa; sons, Elmer (Cheri) Ragpala of Honokaa and Donel (Shady) Ragpala of Washington; a sister-in-law; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandson; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
